State Updates and Equipment Lists

UPDATED: 2/19/2019

All state contests will follow the SkillsUSA Championship Technical Standards as much as possible. Contestants should check the National Contest Updates page often for the latest information. Any variations to national technical standards and/or national contest updates at the State Leadership and Skills Conference due to time or limited resources will be posted below.

Advisors:
  • Please note you must have completed copies of the  CTSO Release Form for each attendee with you at the conference in case of an emergency.
  • Contestants should bring power strip and 5′ extension cord for contests where you bring your own equipment that will need power. For example display contests, and ones where a laptop, desktop, or other electrical device is supplied by the contestant.

State Contest Exams
The SkillsUSA Tennessee State Association will not be hosting or requiring any exams to be given prior to the state conference. Currently the contests that will have a written exam for 2019 are Related Technical Math, Medical Math, Medical Terminology, and Quiz Bowl. The Quiz Bowl exam will be given on Monday afternoon April 1 as part of the contest orientation session.

Additionally, SkillsUSA Tennessee will provide our gold medalists with either a copy of our old exam to study and/or voucher for the SkillConnect exam related to their contest to assist with preparing for national competition. We are confident this will provide our contestants with the opportunity to prepare for the written exam portion at nationals that may not be included at state level due to our time constraints.

The SkillsUSA competition theme for the 2019 year is:
SkillsUSA: Champions at Work
Career-Ready Starts Here
The topic to be addressed by contestants in the Chapter Display, Prepared Speech and Promotional Bulletin Board competitions is how our theme addresses the SkillsUSA national program of work in the area of professional development.

ROBOTICS: URBAN SEARCH & RESCUE
This contest is an open platform competition. Other manufacturers’ kits/components may be used in addition or in place of TETRIX. There are restrictions outlined in the technical standards for overall size, number of motors, number of servos, battery pack voltage, etc. The Robotics: Urban Search & Rescue Challenge: enables students to create a mobile robot like those employed by emergency service personnel (fire, police, military). The robot is designed to secure an area where it is unsafe for emergency service personnel to enter. The demand for designers, skilled technicians, and manufacturing workers who are fluent in mechanical design and electrical systems and highly skilled in troubleshooting and maintenance of robotic systems is projected to continue to grow. The current generation of students is expected to take artificial intelligence and robotics into the evolving world of emergency services, finding new ways to help trained personnel react more quickly and effectively. Therefore, it is imperative that our future labor force be on the leading edge of current and emerging technologies and possess the technical and team skills necessary to maintain industry leadership in design, manufacture, maintenance, and operation of life-saving robotic equipment.

We were recently made aware of the DCD status of the current camera that we include in the TETRIX USAR set is being discontinued. However, any single wireless camera with a power supply of 9V or less can be used. So long as there is only 1 camera on the robot with a power supply of 9V maximum.
